A little bitter, don't you think?
Though I sympathize with the inescapable frustration of played-out fads, like Uggs or any Maroon 5 song, Pathak has it wrong on this one.
The Harlem Shake is viral because it is completely ridiculous. "Why is that guy humping a tricycle? In a leotard?..." Is a more common thought than you may think. Ad Agencies putting their own spin on this meme shows that they not only are in touch with what is permeating every social network, but that they get it. An account executive pole dancing with an astronaut helmet on says more than just "I have marital issues."
In a time in our culture defined by idolatry, materialism, apathy and disparity; why wouldn't you dance like a complete idiot? Seems, to me, at least, that there isn't much to lose.
Pathak needs to lighten up a bit. Maybe she should try the shake every once in awhile; couldn't hurt, right?
Enjoy.
I am in total agreement with you. As much as the Harlem shake fad is random, confusing and overall frightening at times, I think that it's harmless fun. I can say that much of my time this past week was spent looking up different university, sport team and celebrity versions of the Harlem Shake so that I could get a good laugh during my midterms. I have to say the best one I saw was one performed by our very own actresses in Titus Andronicus. They called it Harlem Shakespeare. I love puns. Anyway, Pathek should probably grow up and learn to have fun.
ReplyDeleteI agree as well. I enjoy the fact that companies are paying attention to social media and what their costumers are doing. I think it gives them a competitive edge and makes them more likable. The only company I have seen doing a Harlem Shake video/commercial was Pepsi and I really enjoyed it. It made the company seem fun and modern.
ReplyDeleteI agree at well. It's random and weird but what viral fads like this aren't? If anything it's a good thing like Maegan said that companies are showing that they are paying attention to social media and what most of us are watching. We can't be all serious all the time, its harmless fun that takes the edge off and most of the time, at least for me, gives me something to laugh about. Pathek needs to relax, why not give it a try? Maybe you can shake your attitude!
